02 Multi Panel Video Installation

For this project, we worked as a class to create a multi panel video installation by each creating a seperate found footage video to be compiled together. In this work, we all combined our own styles, but were unfied in our use of found footage. We looked at the influx of information and media available online and how quickly these media bits lose their intended context and meaning. Or, how we create new meaning by placing different pieces of media next to each other. Using Adobe After Effects, I created 4 potential clips for the final composition.

In my favorite clip that was used, I focused on found footage clips I had take involving fire to think about ideas of flames use in celebrations and fond memories, yet it serving as a such a minor aspect. However, like my clip in the whole installation: it is one small part that unfies a whole. I added bright glitchy colors to create an effect that obscured what the viewer was actually seeing. I also did this for aesthetic reasons because I thought it would look better with the other clips made by the class.
To make the installation ready to present, we as a class decided to place the tvs on the floor to create an experience viewable from any angle and distract from the tvs physicality.

I worked with two other students to create 8 seperate video loops that played on each tv, so the experience shown on all the tvs would never repeat because of the way we did our timing. I think this is a cool part of the work because it speaks to the temporality and importance of prescense in the work.
